Summary:

A secret interracial friendship is severely strained when a black man dares to publically defy the customs, traditions and prejudices of southern society.  Tensions build as the white man struggles to maintain the status quo.  Cassie Logan, who narrated Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, tells this haunting story of a neighbor in Mississippi, Mr.  Tom Bee, who dares to call a white storekeeper by his first name.  A long time ago Mr.  Tom Bee had saved the white man's life.  But when Mr.  Bee puts their friendship to the test, something terrible-and unforgettable-happens which illustrates the depth of racial hatred.
